The Doric Board is delighted to learn that one of the recipients of our New Year Awards, Keith Community Radio (KCR) has been honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and previously known as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS), the Award has been shining a light on the work of voluntary groups from all across the UK for many years.

Equivalent to an MBE, KAVS is the highest Award given to local voluntary groups in the UK, and they are awarded for life. The award was made in acknowledgement of the sterling service KCR’s many volunteers provide to the local community and beyond with its varied range of programmes.

The Award was presented to KCR Chairman, James Wiseman by Andrew Simpson, The Lord Lieutenant for Banffshire at a special ceremony held in Keith British Legion on Saturday 14th March 2026. KCR is entirely run by volunteers, and provides a wide range of entertaining programmes to suit all tastes.

The Doric Board sponsors the monthly programme Legends o e North East, produced by KCR Director  Sheila MacDonald.

Sheila said the receipt of the King’s Award was  “a very proud moment indeed for our station,” adding, “and remember – stay tuned to KCR on 107.7fm and online at www.kcr.fm”
