Ellie Beaton in Conversation and Performance

Ellie Beaton in Conversation and Performance, hosted by broadcaster Frieda Morrison.

Ellie hails from Rothienorman in the heart of Aberdeenshire. In February 2025 she was crowned BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year – four years after becoming the youngest ever winner of the MG Alba Scots Singer of the Year. Described by The Herald as “one of the most outstanding voices in Scotland’s folk scene,” she is also a passionate champion of the Doric language, working with Aberdeenshire Council schools and Feis Rois to keep it alive for the next generation.

Hosting the afternoon is Frieda Morrison – a broadcaster with over three decades at BBC Scotland, a New York Radio Award winner, founder of Scots Radio and the Doric Film Festival, and recipient of the Janet Paisley Lifetime Achievement Award at Hands Up for Trad. Few people understand Scotland’s rural and cultural soul quite like Frieda.

Expect songs, stories and a genuine insight into Ellie’s music, her language and the traditions she carries forward.
