A publishing house which specialises in books written in Doric has released their second book since their launch last month. Doric Books are set to launch ‘The Puddock’, an illustrated version of the popular JM Caie poem about a big-headed frog.
A Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign has been created to raise funds to help ‘The Puddock’ leap onto the shelves. The campaign will be launched on 16th July and further information can be found on the Doric Books website and Facebook page, or by going directly to https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/thepuddock
This follows the huge success of their first book, ‘Aul McDonald His a Fairm’, which can be ordered from the website or purchased at local bookshops.
As a Community Interest Company, Doric Books is a not-for-profit business, established to promote the development of North-East Scots language. It achieves this through publishing books while providing workshops and events for schools, care homes and community groups.
Doric Books Co-director, Jackie Ross said: ” We’re fair trickit, really pleased with how things are going so far. Aul McDonald has had really positive feedback and we can’t wait to publish ‘The Puddock’. It’s a really popular poem loved by all ages and Aaron’s illustrations really bring it alive.”
As well as publishing, Doric Books also provide workshops and ‘Blethers’ in Doric for schools, care homes and community groups. Full details of what they can offer can be found on their website.
