The Doric Board acknowledges the Scottish Parliament’s vote unanimously in favour of the Scottish Languages Bill which officially recognises Gaelic and Scots as our legal languages alongside English.
Ministers have expressed their confidence in the Bill’s ability to accelerate the growth of Scots (and Gaelic), and this underlines the importance of The Doric Board’s work towards the creation and support of a sustainable, dynamic future for Doric as a vibrant language. Our aim, through advocacy, campaigning, education, events and funding, is to enhance linguistic and cultural confidence in the North-East, and be a powerful voice for social, and economic regeneration.
Whilst cautiously optimistic, we will continue to monitor the progress of the Bill and strive to ensure that the Doric voice is heard loud and clear at all levels of the decision-making process.
