The Doric Board has launched its latest call for applications from projects that celebrate and promote the North east’s rich Doric language and culture.
The Board’s seventh annual New Year Awards will provide financial assistance of up to £1000 to individual and group projects across the region whose projects help bolster Doric language, culture and traditions. Successful applications will demonstrate a clear understanding of the Board’s remit to promote the language, traditions, and culture of the area.
To date, the awards have supported a broad spectrum of ventures such as assistance with the publication of numerous books to providing t-shirts for a group of Doric-speaking joggers and from a staging of a Doric opera to a new children’s puppet show. Previously supported propositions also include a contribution to create an audio recording of stories by local writers, library-based Doric taster sessions a performance of Peter and the Wolf with text in Doric, and much more.
Commenting on search for recipients of the 2026 Doric Board New Year Awards, Doric Board chair Frieda Morrison said: “The breadth and depth of creativity uncovered through the awards process continues to grow each year. As the awards continue to gain momentum, we once again anticipate the exciting and diverse range of applications that our annual search yields.
“We would encourage anyone considering an application to do so as soon as possible, ahead of the December deadline and the subsequent allocation of funds early next year.”
Applications should be emailed to The Doric Board by December 12th, 2025. Funds will be made available to successful applicants in mid-January 2025. To find out more, visit the website at www.doricboard.com or email info@doricboard.com
